200 Children’s dreams fulfilled through the #FeedADream campaign

The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) together with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) have successfully made the dreams come true of 200 scholars at H.J. Kroneberg Primary School. This was done as a joint-initiative with the CPUT B-Tech Public Relations students who have made an effort of harnessing collective power of partnership with many organisations in order to fulfill the dreams of these learners through the #FeedADream campaign.

“We are extremely happy with what you, as students, are doing with the children; what you are doing for our children are absolutely wonderful,” said Samantha Williams, an employee at H.J. Kroneberg Primary School.

The first of many dreams was realized on Wednesday, 29 July, when the Iziko mobile museum visited H.J. Kroneberg Primary School in Maitland. Throughout August the #FeedADream campaign showed the scholars that dreams do come true and various exciting activities were arranged in conjunction with corporates and the public. From boat trips to being a princess, the scholars experienced their hearts desires. A few students who knew the sky wasn’t the limit had their dream come true of having a personal tour through the hangers at the Cape Town International Airport where they learnt about helicopters and airplanes. “I learnt a lot today, I got into a helicopter for the first time and when I grow up I really want to become a pilot and fly my own plane”, said one of the children. Some of the adventurous learners went up Table Mountain; others visited Monkey Town; The Heart Musuem or went for a bicycle ride along the Sea Point Promenade.

In the end the #FeedADream campaign wanted to show the scholars at H.J. Kroneberg Primary benefitting from PSFA’s services, that their dreams really matter and can come true. “On behalf of PSFA and the #FeedADream campaign, I want to thank all the businesses and individuals that contributed towards making a dream come true or in providing meals for the children, your support is invaluable”, said Charles Grey, fundraising manager for PSFA.

What can be described as a heart-warming end to a very fulfilling campaign, PSFA employees and CPUT staff and students met at H.J Kroneberg Primary on Friday, 28 August, to celebrate all the hopes and dreams which had been fulfilled. Learners received certificates, congratulating them on believing in their dreams and thanking them for being a part of the campaign.

Another element of the #FeedADream campaign has been for the CPUT students to raise funds to feed the 200 children from H.J Kroneberg Primary for a year. With the help from friends, families and a few willing corporates, the students have managed to raise R39 557 thus far and have realised dreams to the value of R42 754.

True to the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”, PSFA and CPUT truly believe that when South Africans unite, the children of our nation can be raised to believe in their dreams.
