How it all began

blisters for bread

In 1968, staff and learners from the Savio College in Lansdowne, along with PSFA, initiated a fun walk to raise funds for PSFA's school feeding programme. Having been successful in their first few efforts, it was decided to stretch the boundaries and have a BIG walk, in which school staff and learners and the community were invited to participate. At this point, PSFA took over the responsibility and ownership of Blisters for Bread.

Today, Blisters for Bread is 43 years old, is usually held on the last Sunday in August, and is a major event in City of Cape Town. In 2010 Blisters for Bread attracted a record number of more than 15,400 walkers, coming out in support of PSFA and feeding hungry children. Over R700,000 was raised.

All funds raised are directed to our school feeding programme so that more learners can be fed. Other sponsors include Peninsula Beverages and the various Lions Clubs around Cape Town. Both organisations have been involved with Blisters since its inception, and their invaluable support has contributed to the success of Blisters.

Come and support us on Sunday the 28th of August at the Green Point Cricket Club.
