Local wine maker raises and donates over R1.2 million to feed hungry school kids

Award winning local wine maker, Carmen Stevens who exports and sells her wines internationally via an online wine retailer called Naked Wines, sent out an appeal to her network of international clients called Angels to make a donation towards feeding hungry children in the Western Cape.

The response to her online appeal via the Naked Wines website, has been overwhelming as she has to date, managed to raise a whopping R1 248 700. Carmen immediately established the Carmen Stevens Foundation who in turn decided to donate this money to PSFA.

The funding will be used to provide a nutritious breakfast and lunch to 863 learners for an entire years at at Kalkfontein Primary in Kuils River, Macassar High, Delft Technical High and Eikendal Primary in Kraaifontein. A portion of the funding will also be used to provide after-school meals for a year to 2 197 learners at Matroosbergweg Primary and Dr van der Ross Primary in Belhar. R40 000 of this funding will be used to purchase much needed kitchen equipment for these two schools.

PSFA hereby wishes to thank Carmen Stevens and all the Angels for heir support. It is the generosity of people like Carmen, the Angels, corporate companies, trusts, foundations, churches, clubs and privileged schools that ensures that PSFA can continue feeding hungry children, especially now when food prices are on the increase.
