PSFA thrives on the goodwill of volunteers, donors and a committed administrative and field staff complement. Thanks to this integral partnership, the implementation of school feeding is possible.
Cooked Meals Introduced to Schools
The Department of Education requested PSFA to pilot the viability of cooked menus in the schools. Much planning went into the menu compilation to ensure that children's nutrition was not compromised.
Twenty four schools were selected to pilot four menus. The menus chosen were:
- samp & beans;
- pap & soy relish;
- rice & soy relish; and
- bread & soy relish.
All the necessary equipment for preparing and cooking were provided.
The pilot started in mid-February and all the menus were well received by the children. Now almost all our schools are on our cooked menu schedule.
