The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) has been selected as the official charity for the annual Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas horseracing event, which takes place at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday 6 December 2014.
Avontuur Estate and Kenilworth Racing are providing PSFA with a donation of R100 000 that will exclusively be used to feed underprivileged school children.
Sixteen schools currently on the feeding programme have been selected to benefit from the donation in the form of school feeding services carried out by PSFA. This will include warm and nutritious breakfasts and lunches being served to learners while at school for an entire year.
Each one of these schools will be allocated a horse that will race on their behalf in the Cape Fillies Guineas. The donation will be distributed in accordance to the position that their horse finishes. The school that draws the winning horse will be allocated the largest portion of the donation pool. The balance of the pool will be shared by all of the remaining schools on a pro rata basis, dependent on the placing of their respective horses.
A representative of each participating school will be invited to the Cape Fillies Guineas Barrier Draw to select the horse that will represent their school. The draw takes place at the Avontuur Estate in Somerset West on Thursday 27 November 2014.
PSFA will be hosting a special fundraising function in the Somerset Room at Kenilworth racecourse on event day. Tickets are on sale for only R395 per person, which is the amount it costs to feed a child at school for a year. The ticket includes a three course buffet meal, soft drinks, entertainment and a great day of racing. To book your seat please contact Diane Hayden on 082 787 6154 or via e-mail email@example.com
“PSFA is delighted to be associated with this major event on the Cape Town calendar. I would to thank the Avontuur Estate and Western Province Racing for contributing to our school feeding programme in this unique manner” says Charles Grey, Fundraising Manager at PSFA.
Avontuur Estate’s General Manager Pippa Mickleburgh said, “PSFA came at just the right time as we were in the process of identifying a new charity to benefit from our annual race day. We look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with PSFA.”
